Weekly Learning

Drawing Club

Book Title: Rosie’s Walk

Last week, we explored the story Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins, focusing on the farm setting where the main character, Rosie the hen, strolls around the farm, meeting new animals along the way, unaware that a sneaky fox is following her. The children enjoyed linking their own farm experiences to the story and came up with very imaginative drawings and sentences to accompany it.

Vocabulary: stroll, haybale, peaceful, windmill and amphibians.

Animation: Lost and Found

This week, we will go on an adventure to the South Pole with the story “Lost and Found” by Oliver Jeffers, in which a boy finds a penguin at his door and travels to the South Pole to help it find its home, only to discover that the penguin truly longs for friendship. The children will discuss the story's structure and the author’s use of imagery and be introduced to new vocabulary to enhance their writing.

Vocabulary: tidal wave, South Pole, iceberg and friendship.

Guided Reading

In Reception school reading books are changed weekly. Your child will be allocated a book change day. Children will receive one guided reading book and one free read that is matched to their phonic ability. If there is no comment in your child's Reading Record we will assume you have not had a chance to read with your child. Please record the text title(s) in your child's reading record.

PE

Our P.E. day is Friday. Please ensure your child wears suitable footwear that are easy for them to run in on Friday. Long hair needs to be tied back and earrings are not allowed to be worn in school at any time.

Forest School

Our Forest School day is every other  Thursday afternoon.  Please make sure your child has their forest school kit (puddle suit) and wellies in school.

RE

Summer 2 Week 1

We watched Jesus Calls Peter by Saddleback Kids. We then reflected on the story: Peter had faith in Jesus and did not question Him. We also talked about how he was asked to change his name and did so.

The children then reenacted the story of St Peter using small-world characters, boats, and fishing nets.

As part of the Year of St Francis, the children made bug hotels outside to care for animals, just as St Francis did.

Summer 2 Week 2

We watched a video about Paul’s ministry and encouraged the children to act it out in class. We then discussed what kind of person Paul was and what this tells us about Jesus. The children were also asked who St Paul was and why he was important.

The children were then invited to write a short letter to a friend about Jesus, just as St Paul did.

We also shared the story of Peter walking on water. We explained that this story is about trusting Jesus, even when we feel afraid. It shows that following Jesus can be difficult at times, but He never leaves His friends when they need Him.

The children were reminded that anyone can be a friend of Jesus, even when they feel afraid—they just need to ask Him for help. The class then worked together to write a prayer on the whiteboard, asking Jesus for help and reflecting on times when they need His support, such as when they are afraid or have made the wrong choices.

Maths

 Summer 2 Week 1

This  week as part of Healthy Living Week the children were taking part in practical maths activities where they were counting the number of star jumps, jumps etc. they could do in a certain amount of time, making predictions and comparisons.

Summer 2 Week 2

This week the children have been consolidating their learning on number patterns and doubles.
